(This salad is so special-looking, it must be displayed on your table before tossing it for serving.)
1 1/2 cups uncooked shells or elbow macaroni
Boil until tender in salted water , drain and place in large salad bowl. Toss with a little vegetable or olive oil or French dressing so the pieces will not stick together.
To the macaroni in the bowl, add the following in layers (prepare them in advance): 2 cups shredded lettuce; 4 eggs, hard-boiled, shelled and chopped; 1 cup or more of cooked ham, diced; 2 cups cooked small peas or diced carrots; 2 cups grated cheddar cheese.
Prepare this dressing – In a small bowl, combine 1 cup bottled mayonnaise; 1/2 cup sour cream; 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard; 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions; salt, pepper and sugar to taste. Pour and spread this dressing over entire top of salad. Cover bowl and store salad inside the ref until serving time.
