Watalappan – Who doesn’t like this? All of us know, Watalappan is a sweet and popular dessert in Sri Lanka. And it is easy to prepare also. Most of us add this sweet dessert into our especial occasions such as weddings and parties. And the colour of Watalappan is usually dark brown and it is appealing to eat when the authentic appearance is there. We know most of our girls love to taste this dessert, but some of them don’t know how to make this dessert. Therefore, we thought to guide you how to make this sweet dessert.



2 cups Thick Coconut Milk
1/2 lb Brown Sugar
4 Eggs
Pinch Cardamoms (Optional)
3 Cloves (Optional)
Raisins, Cashew,


Beat the eggs in a mixer. Add the coconut milk, brown sugar cardamoms and cloves to the beaten eggs mix well. Add the mixture into a pot and steam for 20 minutes. Add raisins.

Altrenatively the mixture can be added into multiple small aluminum bakimg foils and then steamed. The time required for steaming is about 5-10 minutes for this method.

You can garnish it with chopped cashew and sultanas before serving.
