Sugar Waffles

Sugar Waffles

Makes 20 to 25 waffles

Ingredients for Sugar Waffles:


For batter 1:

  • 400 gram plain flour
  • 40 gram yeast
  • 20 gram sugar
  • 10 gram cinnamon
  • 0.1 litre milk
  • 1 egg

For batter 2:

  • 100 gram plain flour
  • 300 gram butter
  • 350 gram sugar pearls or crushed sugar lumps
  • 2 gram baking powder or sodium bicarbonate
  • 10 gram vanillated sugar (1 small packet)
  • a pinch of salt

Directions for Sugar Waffles:

First prepare batter 1:
Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk. Sift the flour in a bowl, and make a little crater in the middle. Pour the yeast solution, the egg, the sugar and the cinnamon in the crater.Gradually mix in the flour, and knead. Let rise for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare batter 2:
Knead butter and flower together, then add the other ingredients. Mix batter 1 and batter 2 together. Cover the batter with a cloth, and let rise for 20 minutes in a warm place. Split the batter in portions of 60 to 80 gram, and roll these into 10 centimeter long sausages.
Heat the iron, grease it with molten butter or other grease. Bake the batter sausages in it; take care not to burn the sugar.
