SHOPPING LIST: Damper Dogs are made from the dough of white bread.
White bread dough
Damper dogs are similar to Toutons, except the bread dough was placed directly on top of the stove. (Most people today use electric or gas stoves, this recipe could not be used.)
Carefully clean the surface of the old fashioned wood or coal stove. Heat the stove
Take white bread dough that has risen and is ready to go in the pans, and cut off small pieces (about the size of an egg) and flatten to around 1/2″ thickness.
Place the damper dogs directly on top of the stove and brown on both sides.
Serve the damper dogs with butter and molasses or jam.
