Chocolate Sponge Cake is one of the easiest but very delicious cake recipe. Also it is o good choice for birthday cake. I think all chocalte lovers will love this cake! You all know sponge cakes are easy and popular. This cake is the chocolate version of it. Let’s look materials that you need for Chocolate Sponge Cake, tips and preparation steps together!

Materials That You Need for Chocolate Sponge Cake;

  • 3 eggs
  • Caster sugar
  • margarine or unsalted butter
  • self raising flour
  • 55g cocoa powder

Preparation for Chocolate Sponge Cake:

First you should weight three eggs. Then you should take the same amounth of sugar, margarine and flour. All of them should be equal to weight of 3 eggs.

For flour we will apply differnt method. Take 55 g less than that weight you measured. Add 55 g cocoa powder instead of it. Mix cocoa and flour.

You need two 23cm diameter cake pans and grease the bottom of them.

Take margarine and sugar in a mixing bowl and mix them with mixer until they become creamy and pale.

Take one egg and add in this mixture. You don’t have to whisk the mixture after you add egg. Just mix with the mixer to get homogenous at the lowest speed. Repeat same process for 2nd and 3rd egss same.

Take one tablespoon of cocoa flour mixture that you have prepared before and sieve into the mixture. Mix them quickly with mixer after add flour cocoa mixture. It is important to get air into mixture to obtain sponge cake.

Pour the mixture equally into two pans. Bake them in pre heated 170C oven for 20 minutes. The form of cake should be spongey. Let it cool for a while.

After cooling. Add jam,  whipped cream, icing, butter icing or anything that you choose to fill or decorate. Choice is up to you. You can create your own recipe.
